Dr Norman Sonenberg is a general pathologist with clinical interests in haematology, cytology and histopathology.
Norman was Medical Director and Consultant Pathologist to Gippsland Pathology from 1988 until 2009 and has acted as the local coronial pathologist since 1993. He has also been the designated pathologist for Breastscreen Gippsland since 1998.
His expertise in cytology of fine needle aspiration and core biopsies has been of great benefit to surgeons and radiologists in the rapid and accurate diagnosis of both benign malignant tumours.
Norman has developed significant experience in histopathology of skin, melanocytic lesions, breast biopsies and resections, gastrointestinal biopsies and resections.
Norman will continue to teach medical students as he has done since 1996. This will provide unique experience for undergraduate and postgraduate students, especially in gross pathology seen at post mortem. Norman is enthusiastic in developing innovative ways of delivering information to local practitioners in a timely and concise manner.
Since its inception in late 2009, Norman has been the supervising pathologist at Pathology Victoria.
